Iftiker Ahmad, MD

Iftiker (Ifti) Ahmad, M.D. graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, with honors in Chemistry, summa cum laude. Dr. Ahmad received his (MD) medical degree from Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan. Dr. Ahmad completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin and returned to Wayne State University for a Fellowship in Gastroenterology. On completion of his fellowship in 1987, he was appointed as an assistant professor at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine (MSU-CHM). He joined Gastroenterology Associates in 1991 and was subsequently one of the founding members of the Digestive Health Institute (Digestive Health Institute). Dr. Ahmad provides clinical care in gastrointestinal and liver diseases. He conducts clinical research. He currently holds clinical appointments with Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine (MSU-CHM) and the College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSU-COM). He is the current Director for Sparrow/MSU-CHM Gastroenterology Fellowship Program. He was selected as the “Physician of the Year for 2016” at Sparrow Hospital.

Dr. Ahmad is a member of the Sparrow Health System Board. He was the founding chair of the Board of Managers for Sparrow Care Network, an organization of more than 500 Michigan physicians, with a mandate to improve the quality of clinical care using objective metrics. He is currently, the chair of the governing Board of Physicians Health Plan Insurance company. Dr. Ahmad is a member of the Executive Board of Ingham County Medical Society.

Dr. Ahmad has been a resident of the Lansing area since 1987. He is married to Dr. Priscilla Wade, a licensed clinical psychologist, and they have two adult children.
