Janell Lee-Allen, MD

Janell Lee-Allen, M.D., MUP is a board-certified gastroenterologist serving the Lansing community. She has earned her Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, MI. Lee-Allen also earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh. She previously served the Detroit community as an Urban Planner and is passionate about educating people about their health options. Lee-Allen was inspired to become a Gastroenterologist when she met a female GI doctor in her book club. After shadowing her in her digestive health practice, Lee-Allen felt she had found her calling to illuminate medicine in color. Dr. Lee-Allen was born in Harlem, New York, and comes from a family of practitioners. Lee-Allen is a Resident Winner of the 2018 Clotilde D. Bowen, MD Women of Excellence Award, a distinction reserved for female residents with a proven commitment to extraordinary patient care and advocacy and mentorship. She holds memberships in American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, National Medical Association. She served the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2015-2016 as WSUSOM Chapter President. When not caring for patients, Dr. Lee-Allen enjoys writing poetry and prose.
